Bayou Classic - Test Drive
Bayou Classic Model - Model SQ14
I wanted to upgrade my burner for use in my home brewery. I have heard mixed reviews on this model. It is a value at 45 USD. The stand is nice and wide and very sturdy. The burner seems to be putting out some nice heat.
So I went and bought one tonight at THE HOME DEPOT and went to putting it to the test. Either I will keep it or return it and continue my search.
I frequent Home Brew Talk (link ) Very helpful people. This is primarily where I read my reviews.
I can see that a bad ass one would cost around 80 -100 USD. Not that much more. And those models claim to be able to boil 15 gals of water in 10min. It could save as much as an hour in total brewing time if I can get that much water up to temp.
This is with the top off.
Start at tap water around 65 degrees
Approx volume 7.5 gallons.
Start your Timer:
10 min in 100 - grab a beer and turn on some tunes
13 min in 120 and I see steam from the top of the water
16 min I got smart and put the top on that should help
20 min 148
30 min 173 - Staring my 2nd beer - out of home-brew :(
40 min 201 and it is looking good - I guess 40 or so minutes is not that bad. - 10 would be better :)
46 min I got a really nice boil
Rolling Boil
So there you have it...
I am not so pleased with 46. I was hoping for closer to 20.
