2007 Texas Renaissance Festival

Last weekend Team Grier made their 3rd annual trip (in costume) to the Texas Renaissance Festival located in Plantersville, Texas. We even had some friends join us this time. (Kudos to Casey, Marissa, Karin, Mark, Karen, and Dominoe for going in costume and looking fabulous.) I know some people believe that renaissance faires are for nerds or, at the very least, those folks who were way to into the drama club in high school---eg., White and Nerdy by Weird Al..."Spend every weekend at the Renaissance Fair, Got my name on my underwear". (BTW, click the link if you want to test your level of whiteness and nerditude.) While there is an "element" in attendance that fits that description, you are missing out if you don't give this experience a chance. What's not to like about enjoying a beautiful day walking out in the woods, eating, drinking, playing games, and being thoroughly entertained by a random cast of characters (some of whom might be your friends)?

The Festival runs until November 25th, so if you go, here's a list of things not to be missed...
  • The King's Beefy Bun (just trust me), which can be aquired at the Sour Old Skull Pirate Pub near the Odeon Stage. Go early because they ran out and Marissa did not get one. :(
  • The Sea Devil Tavern---fabulous beer selection and Christoph the Insulter!
  • The Arborhouse Beer Garden, which we visited after poor Terry rode the "tubs of fun" (think Disney teacups gone low tech) ride with Dominoe and (remarkably) did not hurl!
  • The Agora: belly dancers, beer, and succulent gyros...OPA!!!
One place that I would avoid is the Prince of Wales Pub. It was new this year and they have an indoor area, which apparently gives them the right to have a pitiful beer selection (regardless of what the menu says) and a totally snarky attitude. Sorry, but there are too many wonderful people and attractions at this place to waste one second on the pretentious and the snarky. Lastly, make sure you check out the photo set on Flickr, where you can see wonderful shots like this one of me screaming my head off in terror on a little kiddie ride. (I don't do heights okay...I rode the ride for Dominoe, but no one said I had to smile while I did it. :)
